Lucy Kells - Hospital Manager/Veterinary Nurse
Lucy joined Wildlife Aid in April 2010 as Hospital Manager/Veterinary Nurse for the charity.
She has been a veterinary nurse for almost 20 years, qualifying in 1995 and then going on to do an advanced surgical nursing diploma in 1998. Starting her career in private practice, she has also worked in many other fields of veterinary nursing, such as emergency and critical care nursing, referral work and working for animal charities.
During this time she has always held a strong passion for wildlife and would always be the one to take sick, injured or orphaned wildlife home to care for. This interest in wildlife also led to her volunteering as an orphan foster carer for Bedfordshire Wildlife Rescue in 2004.
When she saw the job as Hospital Manager advertised for Wildlife Aid she immediately applied: "Although I was always lucky enough to have good jobs throughout my career, I always felt that something was missing. My poor husband has spent almost 12 years listening to me whinge about how much I wanted to work with wildlife one day. To help the animals so often overlooked and really try and make a difference for them"
Although we shouldn't have favourites, Lucy adores squirrels and all corvids, and spends a fortune every week on nuts and seeds for feeding them at her home!
