Open Day 2010 - The Result!!

This year's Open Day raised a staggering

£17,913.00!!

This is a fabulous result, and we are extremely pleased with how well the day went.  Considering everyone is having to watch the pennies, the monies raised were just up on last year's figures, so even more reason to say thank you to everyone who made the day possible for us!

Pictures from the day are available to view and buy at

Andy Newbold Photography

Next year's Open Day will be on Sunday 19th June, once again this is Father's Day, so book your Dad now!

Thank you!!

Volunteering

Without our volunteers, Wildlife Aid could not continue to care for the animals that need our help. If you feel strongly about the future of British wildlife, if you just love all animals or even if it's just because you have some free time and want to work with a group of friendly and dedicated group of like-minded people, why not become a volunteer at Wildlife Aid?

As well as helping with animal care, there are other volunteering opportunities within Wildlife Aid.  Perhaps you can't commit to working regularly at the centre, but could collect injured animals in your area when needed and bring them into us.  Perhaps your skills lie in fundraising or PR and you can help to promote the charity through local and national media?  Or maybe you have strong admin. skills and can do some work from home to support the charity.

If you think that you have the skills to help us then please complete the Volunteer Application Form below in the first instance.  We will then be in touch to discuss the opportunities available, and to arrange for you to come for a Volunteer Induction at the centre.

Alleged 'Fox Attack'

PRESS STATEMENT
7 June 2010

WILDLIFE CHARITY RESPONDS TO NEWS STORIES ABOUT "FOX ATTACKS"

A spokesman for Wildlife Aid, the Leatherhead-based charity, said:

"It is extremely rare to hear of incidents in which people have been injured by foxes in this way. But like any wild animal a fox will lash out when cornered, and in cases where a fox feels trapped, or has to protect its young, it will scratch and bite. We do not yet know the full facts in this latest case and it is therefore impossible to make a detailed comment. However, the advice we give to people is very clear: Do not encourage foxes to come into your garden. Do not put out food for them. Do not leave doors and windows open unnecessarily. A fox will instinctively seek out food, so care must be taken not to leave temptation in its way.

"There are estimated to be around 30,000 to 40,000 'urban foxes' (against a total fox population in the UK of a quarter of a million) but some of these urban foxes are becoming bolder and are less scared of people than they should be. Even so, the risk of being injured by a fox is extremely remote. Most previous reports of foxes attacking children, for example, have turned out to be unfounded. In the majority of cases where a fox has been blamed for injuring a child, the animal in question has been later found to be a dog or a cat."

Press Release 20th May 2010

Wildlife charity urges MPs not to repeal the ban on foxhunting

Wildlife Aid, the Leatherhead-based charity that promotes respect for nature, is urging MPs on both sides of the House of Commons to vote against any attempt to reintroduce foxhunting.

The Liberal-Conservative Coalition Government is proposing to give MPs the chance to vote on whether or not the ban should be kept. Wildlife Aid founder Simon Cowell MBE said: "I was very disappointed to hear that the new Government is planning to reopen this issue. The Hunting Act 2004 may not be perfect but at least it reduces the scale of animal cruelty and protects at least one species. To repeal this law, as some members of the Coalition Government seem to want, would in my view be a retrograde step.
