I wanted to comment on the recent parliamentary decision (through Hillary Benn the Environment Secretary) not to give the go ahead for a mass cull of badgers in the face of spreading Bovine TB to cattle (except the Welsh parliament who has given the go-ahead for a small cull for research purposes (!) in Wales).

I mentioned in a blog back at the beginning of the year that I aimed to get involved in more voluntary research. I have been doing The Common Plants Survey for Plantlife for a few years now. Plantlife is the wild plant conservation charity. They allocate a square of an Ordnance Survey map near to where you live and all you have to do is visit this site at least three times over the Spring/Summer period, recording what wildflowers you find and then in September you send the completed survey form back to Plantlife so they can collate all the information from all over the country to get a good indication as to the condition of our native flowers.

I’ve been asked to write a bit about myself. So, here goes! I grew up in Guildford, Surrey. I’ve been gardening since I was “knee-high” to a runner bean pole, and have always been passionate about animals and the natural world. I wanted to be a vet but was hopeless at maths and physics so that was then end of that.

As avid wildlife fans I am sure that you thoroughly enjoy watching wild birds and mammals in your garden whether just to observe, photograph or even draw.
