Were you dreaming of a White Christmas in 2009? Well 2010 certainly delivered a White New Year!
The hospital at Leatherhead stayed open throughout, though it was forced to reduce its opening hours to cope with the travel difficulties due to snow and ice. However, Chris & Sylvia can’t take time off from caring for the fabulous Four Fawns and their furry friends. Their home may have looked like a Winter Wonderland but Chris had to put his 4x4 to good use to ensure that no-one went hungry.

Chris reports that “Button’s coat has thickened considerably and she spent her first full day and night outside on Saturday (23rd Jan). We've got the hall and house back now, perhaps I shouldn't say that....Button turned up within days of me saying that last time!!”

We’re sure you’ll agree that they are all looking great and they clearly know how to wrap themselves up against the cold wind! If these pictures have made you feel warm inside then remember that Winter may have a few more stings in its tail but Spring is just around the corner…and that means that orphan season 2010 may be only a few weeks away.

Please help us to help sick and injured wildlife, but please also heed our advice on what to do when you come across an apparently abandoned fawn, cub or chick. Always leave well alone, call for advice and only touch the animal if it is in immediate danger or if observation proves that it truly is an orphan. That way more wildlife will stay where it belongs; in the wild and, say it quietly now, wonderful rehabilitators like Chris & Sylvia and our many volunteers may get to snuggle up in front of their hearths for just a little bit longer!
