Just because Christmas is over doesn't mean it's time to mothball your posh frock or tuxedo just yet - because on Friday 10th February Betchworth Golf Club will be playing host to the "Red Heart Ball" – organized by Wildlife Ambassador Kate Woods to raise money for the Wildlife Aid Foundation.

The Wildlife Aid Foundation is calling for legislation to restrict the sale of antifreeze unless it contains a bitterant agent and the container carries a clear hazard warning about the dangers to animals.

Thousands of animals including wildlife and domestic pets die every year because they lick up spilled antifreeze on garage floors, driveways, garden paths, pavements and roads.

Children and animals are at risk if you spill anti-freeze in your garage or driveway, according to a Surrey-based animal welfare charity.

The Wildlife Aid Foundation, in Leatherhead, is warning of the dangers to wildlife, domestic pets and small children at this time of year when anti-freeze is widely used.

A local animal welfare charity is urging people to think about the plight of hedgehogs during the bonfire season.

The Leatherhead-based Wildlife Aid Foundation says that if you are burning leaves or garden debris over the coming months, you should take extra care not to injure any hedgehogs or put them at risk.

You should be particularly careful if you are planning to build a big bonfire for Guy Fawkes Night.
