With must duck and duckling rescues, we do everything we can to keep families together, but sadly sometimes that is decided before we are even called on the rescue.
We were recently called to rescue 8 young ducklings from a garden pond after their mother flew off. Sadly, she had not been back for two days and time was running out.
Although ducklings are not difficult to catch, we wanted to ensure that we caused the minimum amount of stress by catching them all in one go. After carefully positioning a net, Simon and the family who called us gently walked the little ducks into it. Luckily, all were easily captured and they were taken back to the centre for some rest, food and time to grow. They will return to the wild as soon as they are old enough for release 🙂
