Mallards can nest in some interesting places and we are often called out to help move a mother and her new brood to safe water.
Whilst the ducklings are easy to catch, making sure we keep mum and ducklings together is not always an easy task. In this rescue, Simon and volunteer, Craig, were called to rescue a family from the courtyard of a local pub. Although they were relatively contained when we arrived, they decided to come out into the open just as the nets were brought out!
Being careful not to spook mum, Simon and Craig gently encouraged her into the keep net before carefully rounding up the ducklings. Once all were safe it was only a short drive to the nearest lake to return them to the wild!
