Trapped pigeon freed from a fence

Entanglements in fences are, sadly, a common sight at Wildlife Aid, but birds are an unusual victim!

We recently got a call to rescue a wood pigeon that had become trapped behind a wire fence. It had been there for some time and needed urgent help.

Cutters in hand, Simon arrived on scene and quickly cut it free. Although we had hoped for a rescue-release, the bird had injured its wing in its fight for freedom, so Simon brought it back to the centre for some R&R.

A few days later, the wounds had healed and the pigeon was looking much better! With a final check up Emma and Naomi from our vet team released it back to the wild once again!
