Have you ever seen surgery on a snake before?

This unfortunate female grass snake (one of three species of snake we have in the UK) arrived after getting stuck in a fence. Unfortunately, she was left with a wound on her side and an open fracture to the tip of her tail.

Luckily, both of these were not too bad and, with the snake anaesthetised, Meriem set to work closing the wound and amputating the tail tip. With the snake now on a course of medication, she is recovering well and we hope to get her back in the wild before long!

Amazingly, this little snake has been making great progress and her wounds are healing well. After spending a little time recovering in one of our larger reptile vivaria, it won't be long before she can, finally, head back to the wild!
