Hedgehog attacked by garden strimmer

Rescue

Those of you who follow our social pages will know that we see many hedgehogs arriving, each year, with nasty strimmer injuries. Sadly, this hog is the latest victim to come through the WAF doors.

However, normally, we see patients whose injuries have been inflicted that same day, whereas this hedgehog had clearly been suffering for a while.

The wound on his head had developed into an abscess that was oozing a dark brown liquid, so Sally, our vet, quickly set to work to thoroughly clean the entire area.

With an initial dressing applied, the hog will require numerous weeks of care, before the wound is completely healed.

Rehabilitation

Hedgehogs are truly amazing and heal so quickly! After just a week, the hogs head wound had already halved in size.
